$20,000+ in Grants awarded to Friends of Letchworth State Park

Friends of Letchworth State Park will receive a state matching grant of $20,980 to enhance the park.

The grant, announced by state Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan, R-Elma, is funded through the state’s Environmental Protection Fund’s Park and Trail Partnership program and will be supplemented by local and private funding of $6,100. Friends of Letchworth is seeking to raise $5,120.

Friends of Letchworth will use its grant for materials and training to increase volunteer recruitment to better steward the park and its trails.

Help Enhance Letchworth State Park

You could play a part in enhancing what has been called the most scenic state park in the nation. Letchworth State Park is building a year-round nature center and its Nature Center Planning Committee is seeking $100,000 more in donations to complete its vision.

The committee has already raised $2 million in private donations. The state has agreed to match private donations 2-to-1, for a total of $4.6 million. The money is already showing results, before the fundraising is even complete. The new Nature Center is up, and finishing is expected this spring.

Grassroot Initiative Grants Awarded

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced $450,000 in state grants to 20 organizations dedicated to the stewardship and promotion of New York State parks and historic sites. The grants, funded through the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), will be matched by nearly $242,000 in private and local funding. These funds will support projects to strengthen Friends Groups and enhance public access and recreational opportunities at parks and historic sites across the state.

“These grants will help preserve New York’s natural green spaces while also boosting tourism and strengthening local economies,” Cuomo said.
