Civil Conservation Corps Legacy Day – Saturday, August 3rd, 2019

Join us on Saturday, August 3rd in celebrating Letchworth Park’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) legacy. The CCC was one of the first of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal programs designed to battle the Great Depression of the 1930s. Over the program’s nine years millions of unemployed young men were put to work conserving America’s natural resources and developing public lands and parks. Letchworth Park had four CCC camps whose members laid the foundation for the modern day park. During this annual event we visit the four camp sites, share stories of camp life, highlight their many work projects and honor the memory of the CCC “boys” with a special flag raising and ceremony. At the CCC built Lower Falls Octagon Shelter will will have a variety of family activities, exhibits, and presentations on the CCC in Letchworth Park from 10 AM to 2 PM. We will finish the day with a dedication of newly restored Big Bend Camp 23 Chimney on the east side of Letchworth Park. Click here for a complete schedule!
